About this service
Eyelid lesion removal and repair is a surgical procedure available in Windhoek to remove a lump, cyst or growth on the eyelid, with repair carried out afterwards where needed to keep the eyelid functioning and looking as natural as possible. Eyelid lesions can be uncomfortable, affect vision, or simply be a cosmetic concern, and removal also allows the tissue to be checked if there's any doubt about what it is. Because the eyelid is delicate, careful surgical technique matters.
At Eastgate Clinic this procedure is performed in our on-site day theatre, with consultation and follow-up managed by your GP in our rooms. Your doctor will advise on the best approach for your lesion.
What to expect
- An examination of the lump in our rooms to plan the safest line of removal
- The lesion is excised in our on-site day theatre with an anaesthetist present, and the eyelid edge is repaired so it keeps its shape
- Mild swelling and bruising around the eye is common for a few days
- Fine sutures, if used, are removed at a follow-up visit in our rooms
- Removed tissue can be sent for laboratory testing when needed

Frequently asked questions
Will an eyelid lesion be tested after removal?
Where there is any doubt about what the lump is, the removed tissue is sent to the laboratory. Your doctor will go through the result with you at a follow-up visit in our rooms.
Does eyelid lesion removal leave a scar?
The incision is placed along the natural lines of the eyelid and closed with fine sutures, so any mark usually fades well. Your doctor cannot promise an invisible result, but eyelid skin tends to heal neatly.
Do I need to see a specialist for an eyelid lump?
