What to expect

• An ultrasound confirms the varicocele and measures both testicles before surgery is planned.
• The surgeon ties off the enlarged veins through a small incision in the groin under anaesthesia, sparing the artery and lymph vessels.
• You go home the same day with a support garment and simple pain relief.
• A semen test three months later checks whether fertility measures have improved, if that was the reason for surgery.
