About this service
Vaginal hysterectomy with repair and ovary removal in Windhoek combines removal of the uterus through the vagina, repair of the vaginal walls, and removal of one fallopian tube and ovary in a single operation. This combined approach is used when a patient has more than one gynaecological issue needing surgical treatment, such as uterine problems, prolapse and an ovarian condition together, allowing everything to be addressed in one procedure rather than several.

Frequently asked questions
Why would ovary removal be added to a vaginal hysterectomy and repair?
If a cyst or other problem affects one ovary alongside uterine trouble and prolapse, removing that ovary and tube during the same operation avoids a separate procedure later. Your doctor will explain why each part is recommended for you.
Will removing one ovary during hysterectomy cause menopause?
Removing a single ovary does not normally trigger menopause, because the remaining ovary keeps producing hormones. Your doctor will discuss this if both ovaries ever need to be removed.
How is recovery after vaginal hysterectomy with repair and ovary removal?
It is similar to recovery from vaginal hysterectomy with repair, with a few days in hospital and about six weeks of lifting restrictions. The ovary removal adds little to the recovery, and your doctor will go through the tissue results with you.
