Postpartum uterine evacuation is a procedure available in Windhoek to remove tissue that has remained in the uterus after delivery, which can otherwise cause bleeding or infection. It's usually recommended when scans or symptoms after birth suggest that not all of the placenta or related tissue has come away naturally. What to expect

• A consultation and scan review in our rooms to confirm the need for evacuation
• Under anaesthesia in our on-site day theatre, retained placenta or membranes are gently removed through the cervix
• Some cramping and bleeding afterwards, similar to a heavy period, is expected
• Rest and monitoring for signs of infection during recovery, as advised by your doctor
• Follow-up appointment to confirm the uterus has healed well
