About this service
Hysteroscopy with uterine septum removal is a telescope examination of the uterus combined with surgical removal of a dividing wall inside the womb, known as a uterine septum, and it is available in Windhoek at Eastgate Clinic. A septum is a band of tissue present from birth that divides part of the uterine cavity, and it can be linked to recurrent miscarriage or difficulty conceiving. Removing it through the hysteroscope restores a more normal uterine shape without open surgery.
The procedure is carried out in our on-site day theatre under general or regional anaesthesia. Your doctor will assess your history and imaging before recommending this procedure.
What to expect
- Your ultrasound or MRI images are reviewed so the doctor knows the size and depth of the septum
- The septum is divided from inside the womb with the hysteroscope, so there is no abdominal incision
- An anaesthetist gives general or regional anaesthesia and you return home the same day
- Mild cramping and a little bleeding are expected for a few days afterwards
