Hysteroscopic Myomectomy in Windhoek

Telescope-guided removal of a fibroid from inside the uterine cavity.

About this service

Hysteroscopic myomectomy is telescope-guided surgery to remove a fibroid from inside the cavity of the uterus, without any external cuts, and it is available in Windhoek at Eastgate Clinic. A thin telescope, called a hysteroscope, is passed through the cervix into the uterus, allowing your doctor to see and remove fibroids that are growing into the uterine cavity and often causing heavy bleeding or fertility difficulties.

The procedure is carried out in our on-site day theatre under general or regional anaesthesia. Your doctor will assess the fibroid's size and position on ultrasound before advising whether this approach is suitable.

What to expect

  • An ultrasound or scan to confirm the fibroid's size and position
  • General or regional anaesthesia is typically used
  • The procedure itself usually takes under an hour
  • Some cramping and light bleeding afterwards is normal for a few days
  • Your doctor will advise on recovery time and any fertility follow-up

Who is it for?

You may be advised to have this if you are dealing with:

  • Heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding linked to a uterine fibroid
  • Difficulty conceiving where a submucosal fibroid is a suspected cause
  • Recurrent miscarriage linked to a fibroid distorting the uterine cavity
  • A fibroid identified on ultrasound growing into the uterine cavity
  • Pelvic pain or pressure associated with a uterine fibroid

Frequently asked questions

How much does hysteroscopic myomectomy cost in Windhoek?

Cost depends on your medical aid and the size and number of fibroids, so please contact Eastgate Clinic for a quote. We accept medical aid and private patients.

Do I need a referral for hysteroscopic myomectomy?

You can be assessed by our GP team, who will refer you onward for the procedure if appropriate.

Is hysteroscopic myomectomy painful?
