About this service
Excision of a testicular or epididymal lesion is a day-theatre procedure available in Windhoek that removes a lump or cyst from the testicle or epididymis, either to relieve symptoms or to confirm a diagnosis through laboratory examination. Lumps in this area are common and often benign, such as a cyst on the epididymis, but any new lump should be assessed by a doctor to rule out more serious causes. Surgery is considered when a lesion is uncomfortable, growing, or needs to be examined more closely.
At Eastgate Clinic this procedure is performed in our on-site day theatre, with consultation and follow-up managed by your GP in our rooms. Your doctor will explain what the surgery involves for you.
What to expect
- A scrotal ultrasound characterises the lump before surgery is considered.
- The surgeon removes the lesion through a small scrotal incision under anaesthesia, protecting the testicle and the sperm tube.
- The removed tissue is sent to pathology, and the result is reviewed with you in our rooms.
- Bruising and mild swelling are expected and ease over a fortnight with supportive underwear.

Frequently asked questions
Should I worry about a lump on my testicle?
Any new lump should be checked promptly, though most turn out to be benign cysts on the epididymis. An ultrasound usually tells the difference and guides whether removal is needed.
Will removing an epididymal cyst affect fertility?
The cyst sits beside the tube that carries sperm, so there is a small risk of scarring that tube. Your doctor will discuss this if fertility is important to you before surgery.
What is the recovery after testicular lesion removal?
You go home the same day and rest for a few days with supportive underwear. Bruising fades over two weeks, and the tissue result is discussed at follow-up.
