Endometrial ablation is a day-theatre procedure available in Windhoek that removes or destroys the lining of the womb to treat heavy menstrual bleeding that hasn't responded well to other treatments. It's generally considered for women who have completed their family, as it isn't suitable if future pregnancy is planned. By reducing or removing the lining that builds up each cycle, it can significantly lighten or stop periods for many women.

At Eastgate Clinic this procedure is performed in our on-site day theatre, with consultation and follow-up managed by your GP in our rooms. Your doctor will discuss whether ablation is a suitable option for you.

What to expect

• A consultation to discuss your bleeding pattern and treatment history in our rooms
• Performed under anaesthesia in our on-site day theatre
• Some cramping and watery discharge for a few weeks afterwards is common
• A period of rest and gentle activity, as advised by your doctor
• Follow-up appointment to review your bleeding pattern after the procedure
