About this service
Circumcision is the surgical removal of the foreskin, performed under anaesthesia in our day theatre for medical or personal reasons, and it is available in Windhoek at Eastgate Clinic. It may be recommended for medical reasons such as recurrent infections, tightness that makes the foreskin difficult to retract, or other conditions affecting the foreskin, and it is also chosen electively for personal, cultural, or religious reasons.
The procedure is carried out in our on-site day theatre under local or general anaesthesia depending on age and preference. Your doctor will discuss your reasons for the procedure and the most suitable anaesthesia option for you or your child.
What to expect
- Your doctor checks the foreskin and general health and explains the clamp method for your or your child's age.
- A clamp device protects the head of the penis while the foreskin is removed under anaesthesia.
- Bleeding is minimal with the clamp method, and often only a dressing rather than stitches is needed.
- Healing usually takes seven to ten days, with the wound checked at a follow-up visit.

Frequently asked questions
Can a baby or young child be circumcised at Eastgate Clinic?
Yes. The clamp method suits all ages, and for babies and young children a paediatric-appropriate anaesthetic is used with our anaesthetist in the day theatre. Bring the child's clinic card to the assessment.
How is clamp circumcision different from surgical circumcision?
A clamp device protects the head of the penis and seals the edge as the foreskin is removed, so there is less bleeding and few or no stitches. Your doctor will advise if it suits your age and anatomy.
How do I care for a circumcision wound at home?
Keep the area clean with warm water, apply the ointment provided and use loose clothing. A yellowish film on the head of the penis is part of normal healing, not infection.
