A cervical cone biopsy is a procedure available in Windhoek that removes a cone-shaped piece of cervical tissue to diagnose or treat abnormal cervical cells. It's typically recommended when a pap smear or colposcopy shows changes that need a deeper tissue sample than a standard biopsy can provide, or when earlier treatment hasn't fully cleared abnormal cells. The tissue removed is examined closely to guide any further treatment.

At Eastgate Clinic this procedure is performed in our on-site day theatre, with consultation and follow-up managed by your GP in our rooms. Your doctor will explain your results and what a cone biopsy involves.

What to expect

• A consultation reviewing your pap smear or colposcopy results in our rooms
• Performed under anaesthesia in our on-site day theatre
• Some bleeding or discharge for a couple of weeks afterwards is common
• Avoiding tampons, intercourse and certain activities during healing, as advised by your doctor
• Follow-up appointment to discuss the results and any further care
