When is Bartholin gland excision better than marsupialisation?
Excision is usually reserved for cysts that keep returning after drainage or marsupialisation, or when the gland is unusually thickened. Removing the whole gland takes away the source of the problem.
Will removing a Bartholin's gland affect lubrication?
The Bartholin's glands make only a small part of vaginal lubrication, and the gland on the other side remains. Most women notice no difference afterwards.
How long does it take to heal after Bartholin gland excision?
The area is tender for about a week and the stitches dissolve over two to three weeks. Sitting on a cushion, salt baths and avoiding intercourse until your doctor confirms healing all help.
