About this service
Anterior vaginal repair is surgery to repair the front wall of the vagina and correct a prolapse of the bladder, known as a cystocele, and it is available in Windhoek at Eastgate Clinic. A cystocele happens when the tissue supporting the bladder weakens, allowing it to bulge into the front vaginal wall, which can cause a feeling of pressure, discomfort, or urinary symptoms. Surgery tightens and reinforces this supportive tissue to restore normal anatomy and relieve symptoms.
The repair is carried out in our on-site day theatre under regional or general anaesthesia. Your doctor will assess the prolapse and discuss whether surgery is the right option for you.
What to expect
- A pelvic examination to assess the degree of prolapse
- Spinal or general anaesthesia in our on-site day theatre, with the repair done through the vagina and no abdominal cuts
- A catheter and vaginal pack may be left in place for a short time after surgery
- A feeling of pressure or mild pain during recovery is normal
- Advice on avoiding lifting and constipation so the repair is not strained while it heals

What does anterior vaginal repair fix?

Do I need to see a gynaecologist before prolapse surgery at Eastgate Clinic?
Book a consultation with us first. Your doctor examines the prolapse, may suggest pelvic floor exercises or a pessary as a first step, and refers you to a visiting gynaecologist for surgery in our on-site day theatre if needed.
How long is recovery after anterior repair surgery?
Expect to take things gently for about six weeks, avoiding heavy lifting, straining and intercourse while the repair strengthens. A catheter may be in place for a short time after surgery.
