A troponin test is a rapid blood test done at Eastgate Clinic in Windhoek used to check for signs of heart muscle damage, most commonly when someone presents with chest pain. Troponin is released into the blood when the heart muscle is under strain or injured, so this test gives your doctor important information for assessing chest discomfort quickly.
A small blood sample is taken in our rooms, and your doctor will use the result alongside your symptoms, history, and other findings such as an ECG to guide urgent next steps, which may include referral for further cardiac care if needed.
What to expect
- You are seen promptly, with an ECG usually recorded at the same time as the blood sample
- A rapid troponin result is available while you remain in our rooms

Can a troponin test tell if I have had a heart attack?
Troponin is released when heart muscle is damaged, so a raised level is a strong signal. Your doctor reads it together with an ECG and your symptoms, and a normal early result is sometimes repeated a few hours later.
Should I go to the clinic or straight to hospital with chest pain?
Severe or crushing chest pain with sweating, breathlessness or pain spreading to the arm or jaw is an emergency, so call for an ambulance. For less severe or ongoing chest discomfort, your doctor can assess you and run a troponin test the same day.
How quickly is a troponin result available?
