Cervical cerclage, often called a cervical stitch, is the placement of a stitch around the cervix during pregnancy to help prevent premature birth, and it is available in Windhoek at Eastgate Clinic. It is usually recommended when the cervix is weak or shortening early, a condition that can increase the risk of miscarriage or premature labour. The stitch provides extra support to help hold the pregnancy until closer to term, when it is later removed.
The procedure is carried out in our on-site day theatre under regional or general anaesthesia. Your doctor will assess your pregnancy history and cervix to decide if a cerclage is appropriate.
