An alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) test is a blood test done at Eastgate Clinic in Windhoek that measures a protein your doctor can use in two main contexts: as part of pregnancy screening, and in monitoring certain liver and testicular conditions. During pregnancy, AFP levels can offer information relevant to your doctor's overall assessment, while outside of pregnancy, raised levels can be a useful marker when investigating or tracking liver or testicular concerns.

Is AFP a tumour marker for liver cancer?
Yes. Outside pregnancy, a raised alpha-fetoprotein can point to liver or testicular tumours, and it is also used to monitor treatment. Your doctor will interpret the level with imaging and other tests.
