An adenoidectomy is a day-theatre operation available in Windhoek to remove enlarged adenoids, the small glands at the back of the nose that can cause breathing, snoring or ear problems when swollen. It is commonly considered for children who have recurrent ear infections, blocked noses or disturbed sleep linked to enlarged adenoids, though adults can need it too. The procedure is performed through the mouth, so there are no external cuts or visible scarring.
At Eastgate Clinic, adenoidectomy is carried out in our on-site day theatre, with consultation and follow-up managed by your GP in our rooms. Your doctor will advise whether this procedure suits your child's or your own symptoms.

Frequently asked questions
What do the adenoids do and why remove them?
The adenoids are small glands behind the nose that help fight infection in early childhood. When they swell, they can block the nose, cause snoring and lead to fluid in the ears, and removing them may relieve those problems.
How long does it take a child to recover from an adenoidectomy?
Most children are back to normal activities within about a week. A sore throat, snoring or bad breath for a few days is common, and your doctor will advise on food, fluids and when to return to school.
Is an adenoidectomy done together with grommets or a tonsillectomy?
It can be. If your child also has fluid in the ears or recurrent tonsillitis, the doctor may suggest combining procedures under the same anaesthetic. This is decided at the consultation in our rooms.
