How soon after a vasectomy is it safe to rely on it for contraception?
Not straight away. Sperm can remain in the tubes for weeks, so you need other contraception until a semen test, usually around three months later, confirms there are none left. Your doctor arranges this test.
How long is recovery after a vasectomy?
Most men rest for a day or two and are back at desk work within a few days, avoiding heavy lifting and sport for about a week. Supportive underwear and simple pain relief help with the mild swelling and bruising that are common.
