Anal skin tag removal is a minor surgical procedure available in Windhoek to remove skin tags that have developed around the anus, often following a previous haemorrhoid or minor injury. Removal is a straightforward day procedure with a relatively quick recovery.
At Eastgate Clinic this procedure is performed in our on-site day theatre, with consultation and follow-up managed by your GP in our rooms. Your doctor will assess your skin tags and advise if removal is appropriate.
What to expect
- A consultation and examination in our rooms before the procedure is booked
- Under anaesthesia the skin tags are snipped away at the base and the small wounds are left to heal or closed with a stitch
- Mild soreness at the site for a few days after removal is common

Frequently asked questions
Are anal skin tags the same as haemorrhoids?
No. A skin tag is loose, painless skin that is often left behind after a haemorrhoid or fissure has settled. It has no blood vessels inside it and does not bleed the way piles do, but it can make cleaning difficult.
Can an anal skin tag be removed in the consulting room?
Because the area is sensitive and needs to be kept clean while it heals, we remove anal skin tags in our on-site day theatre under anaesthesia rather than in the rooms. It is a short procedure and you go home the same day.
How long does it take to heal after anal skin tag removal?
The small wounds usually heal within one to two weeks. Keeping the area clean after each bowel movement and avoiding constipation are the main things that help, and any follow-up is arranged in our rooms.
